Carterton Gymnastic Club CIC has a rich history filled with outstanding accomplishments. Our club and dedicated athletes have achieved remarkable milestones, and we are proud to share some of these incredible moments with you:


BBC Sports Personality Awards - Unsung Heroes Winner (2019)


Carterton Gymnastic Club CIC's Impressive Achievements: In December 2019, our remarkable Head Coach, Debra Courtenay-Crane, was honored as the South Region winner of the BBC Sports Personality Unsung Hero award. This prestigious recognition highlighted her decades of dedication to our club and the sport of gymnastics. Debra received her award on stage at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show in Aberdeen, alongside other regional winners. It was a well-deserved moment of recognition for her outstanding contributions to our club.



West Oxfordshire District Council COACH OF THE YEAR (Multiple Times)


Our coaching excellence has been consistently acknowledged by the West Oxfordshire District Council, where we have been honored as the "Coach of the Year" multiple times. This recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our coaching staff in nurturing our gymnasts' talents and achievements.



West Oxfordshire District Council CLUB OF THE YEAR (Multiple Times)


Carterton Gymnastic Club CIC has been recognised as the "Club of the Year" by the West Oxfordshire District Council on multiple occasions. This accolade celebrates our club's outstanding achievements, commitment to excellence, and positive impact on our local community.



Debra Courtenay-Crane: British Gymnastics PAT ENGLISH TROPHY (2019)


Debra Courtenay-Crane, our esteemed Head Coach, was awarded the prestigious British Gymnastics Pat English Trophy in 2019. This trophy is a testament to her exceptional coaching and leadership in the gymnastics community. Debra's influence even extended to coaching Commonwealth Games athletes, like Katie Slader, who competed under her guidance.



Katie Slader's Commonwealth Games Success


Under the coaching of Debra Courtenay-Crane, Katie Slader competed in two Commonwealth Games: Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006. Her impressive performances demonstrated the exceptional training and support provided by our club.



Katie Slader: World Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne 2005


Katie Slader, still coached by Debra at Carterton, represented Ireland at the World Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne 2005, further highlighting the international success nurtured within our club.



European and Northern European Championship Success


Carterton Gymnastic Club CIC athletes have competed numerous times in prestigious competitions worldwide. Katie Slader was crowned Northern European champion in 2004, showcasing our club's commitment to excellence.



British Championships Participation


Our gymnasts have consistently showcased their talent at the British Championships. Notably, at just nine years old, Katie Slader earned a spot in the British Squad, a testament to our club's dedication to nurturing young talents.



World Gymnastics Championships in Orlando 2016


Amie Cooper, an athlete who joined our club in January 2016, embarked on an incredible journey to the World Gymnastics Championships in Orlando. Her hard work and dedication paid off as she represented our club admirably, creating unforgettable memories.



Success of Our Adult Squad


Carterton Gymnastic Club CIC is not just about youth gymnastics. Our adult squad, consisting of athletes aged 19 to 80, regularly competes at the regional and national levels. We are proud to have British Champions among our adult gymnasts, including Kate Dela, Colin Rigby, and Marge Scholes.



Representing Four National Squads


Our club's dedication to nurturing talent extends beyond regional boundaries. We have supported one of our gymnasts in joining the Scottish National Squad. Emma White, a Commonwealth Games competitor in Melbourne 2006, was part of the same group as Katie Slader, representing Northern Ireland. Our commitment to developing gymnastic talent knows no bounds.



These remarkable achievements reflect our club's passion, dedication, and commitment to the sport of gymnastics. We are immensely proud of our coaches, athletes, and supporters who have contributed to our success over the years. As we continue our journey, we look forward to achieving even greater heights in the world of gymnastics.
