A sport for everyone

We are very keen that every person, whatever their ability or disability is able to benefit from access to the wonderful sport of gymnastics. From fundamental movement activity to elite gymnastics skills, disability gymnastics has something exciting, fun and engaging for everyone to enjoy.

The benefits to participants are far-reaching, with individuals not only increasing co-ordination and strength but also self-belief, perseverance and confidence. It provides an opportunity to step out of the comfort zone and be challenged in a safe environment, with coaches who are there to enable you to achieve your full potential. Our focus is on what you can do, not on what you can't.

Depending on the gymnast's needs, we may look to integrate them in our mainstream classes. We currently have almost 100 young people with a wide variety of special needs, from autism to Angelman syndrome, participating in our mainstream classes, with some extra help from our coaches.

If the disability is more severe and the gymnast needs to attend with a carer/supporter, then our dedicated Comets class will be the most suitable. These classes have a maximum of 6 participants plus carers, which allows the sessions to be tailored to the needs of the individuals.

COMETS CLASS: Saturday 11.30am - 12.30pm

If you are interested and would like to find out more, please contact us directly to discuss the support you need to access our classes. Telephone 01993 870778 or email cartertongymnastics@outlook.com.

Facilities to help

Picture3_edited.jpg

The Vault has been designed to be as accessible as possible and includes both a disabled toilet, and a changing room with electric hoist, sink facilities and an electrically height adjustable changing bed.

With plenty of car parking and level access throughout, moving around the facility is good. Doors are painted to contrast with walls to help the visually impaired and we are always looking for feedback on ways to improve our accessibility. You are most welcome to visit The Vault for a look around and a chat, just give us a ring to arrange a suitable time.

ATLANTO-AXIAL SCREENING for gymnasts living with Down's syndrome

British Gymnastics requires that all participants who have Down’s syndrome and wish to participate in gymnastics activity are screened for Atlanto-axial instability. The form can be found here and needs to be completed and approved by BG before participation. Please be aware this can take up to 30 days for approval.
